Kicking off the new year right! Warmachine, Hordes and some Warhammer Fantasy WIP!

I decided to kick off the new year right by assembling a slew of new models to jumpstart the hobby for 2014!

Since it was painfully apparent that I was not the most productive hobbyist in 2013, I think that ensuring that I have my 50 point armies and the heroes of my Warriors of Chaos army assembled is a good step in the right direction!

Here is the group shot which is comprised of;
10 Mage Hunter Infiltrators
1 Epic Eiryss Mage Hunter Commander
1 Warpborn Skinwalker Alpha
2 War Wolves
1 Winter Argus
1 Reeve of Orboros
2 Wolves of Orboros
1 Narn, Mage Hunter Assassin
1 Sylys
1 Arcanist

You may also see the primed Mierce Miniatures Minotaurs in the background who are set on wine corks and ready to be painted.  Those hopefully will be done soon.

Below is the Warpborn Skinwalker Alpha.  One of my favorite models by Privateer Press but also one of my least favorite to assemble.  I am never a fan of spikes that are too small to pin being included (being too small to pin means the small drill I have which is super tiny is too wide for the bit) or pieces that are just weird to attach such as a jaw.
End result however looks great.

The Mage Hunter Infiltrators are a neat set.  The models come without arms attached and the arms specifically match their models torso.  Now I hate pinning diagonal angles which is what I had to do on half of these things.  It's a pain in the ass, learn to cast in plastic if you can't do it right.

If you will note, I have the new Eiryss model included as well.  I am not a fan of this model for various reasons.  The model is very thin and feels spindly for starters, the models metal cloak is too thin to pin and has two connection points at her shoulders.  The models arms are barely pinnable as I had to be captain awesome to get the angle right to pin.  Lastly the crossbow she has can in no way be properly pinned since the metal is not only too soft but also the connection point is too small.  Usually Privateer Press is awesome about the models they cast, this one however is a fail.

Lastly we have the two metal characters in the Warriors of Chaos army.  The Chaos Lord on a Daemonic Mount was relatively easy to assemble however I had to cut pieces of rod to serve as spikes since the spikes that come with the model are too small to pin and kept snapping off despite my best glue jobs.  Also, as you can see I have the Archaon, the Chosen laid out in pieces on my cutting mat.  He will be assembled next.  I can not wait!

Enter Warmachine and Hordes

Now that OFCC has come and gone, my gaming group has decided to pursue 3 initiatives for gaming.
1. Paint/build/play our Warhammer Fantasy armies at 2500.
2. Play and build up our Warhammer Fantasy armies for Storm of Magic.
3. Build a 35 point Warmachine or Hordes army by the end of October.

I have decided that I will build two armies for Warmachine/Hordes.  I will build/paint/play a 35 point Retribution of Scyrah and a Circle of Orboros army.

You can expect to see several updates in the next few months showing Warmachine/Hordes/Warhammer and also I'm running a Warhammer 40k workshop starting on July 11th as well.

Current Project List for this Summer.
1. Paint/Assemble my Wood Elves to 2500 points.
2. Paint/Assemble my Beastmen to 2500 points.
3. Paint/Assemble 35 points of Retribution of Scryah by October
4. Paint/Assemble 35 points of Circle of Orboros by October.
5. Conduct a 40k workshop at my FLGS to get new players into the game and provide existing players some help.

It'll be fun!

Wood Elf Modeling and Wild Rider Update

So... I've was looking at my army and realized I have some pretty boring looking Core troops for my Wood Elves.  I was hoping that I would have something that people would look at and go "oh neat" or "Hey that's cool".  So... I have been working on making some of the Wood Elf Glade Guard a bit more dynamic looking and hopefully after these new models are painted I'll be willing to redo the other 20 and have them all fancy looking and what not.
Anyway here are some WIP of my new Glade Guard and some Wild Rider conversion pictures:
I have painted the cloaks Codex Grey and the hair Blazing Orange here.

Here is an example of some of the Talismanic Tattoos that the Wild Riders have.  I really enjoyed free-hand painting these little designs and I think I will end up doing these on all my Wardancers and some of my Glade Guard.  Braveheart anyone?

In this pose I cut the knee and greenstuffed a joint and have the Wood Elf Glade Guard vaulting over a tree root to "join the fray".  This was a stupid easy conversion to do.

This is a Glade Guard using a bit from the Citadel Trees box as a "shield" or cover.  This will also double as a Standard Bearer should I ever need to include on in the unit.

This was perhaps my favorite conversion.  I cut the joint and bent his knee then turned his bow sideways so that he is doing the Legolas side shot angle.

This guy is also an easy conversion, all I did was again cut the knee and greenstuff the joint then model him in motion shooting his bow.

Here is how the unit of 10 Glade Guard will look when on their movement tray.  You will notice I have put some of my normal "Scouts" into this unit because I have already replaced my normal Scout models with another set I picked up today.  Overall, I'm pleased with how easy this conversion was to do and will more than likely end up doing this for all my Glade Guard in the future.  Thank you GW for making non-metal Core choices.  Soooo much easier to pose.

Finally, I purchased a set of Privateer Press "Reeves of Orboros " box which is used for their Warmachine and Hordes game system.  (The stags from the Wild Rider conversion also come from this system.)  While they do actually have pointy ears (yay) they do use double crossbows but ... Grats my new Scout models - I'd rather them be different looking than my normal Glade Guard so that my opponent doesn't confuse them (and also so that *I* do not forget about using them).  I really like these models and when peer pressure finally kicks in (I'm looking at you Roy and Shawn) I'll start a Circle of Orboros Hordes army.  Til then it's Happy Fantasy Warhammer time!

I've got an 'Ard Boyz tournament on May 16th that I am hoping to be rotated into.  I was the 3rd alternate on the waiting list at Ancient Wonders but hopefully some folks won't show up and I can unleash my 2500 point Ulthwe` Guardian army!

More updates to come later, thanks for reading!
